The winners of the prestigious Time India Awards 2017 were announced at the CII Partnership Summit held at Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh on the 27th and 28th of January 2017. The intent of these awards is to recognise talent and leadership in the manufacturing sector.
The winners were chosen from a staggering number of 15,000 manufacturing companies after extensive evaluation conducted with McKinsey & Co, the knowledge partner for the awards. The jury comprised of Norman Pearlstine, Vice Chairman of Time Inc; John Rice, Vice Chairman of General Electric; Narayana Murthy; co-founder of Infosys; Chanda Kocchar, Chief Executive of ICICI Bank, among other eminent business figures. The awards were presented by Arun Jaitley, Minister of Finance, Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister for Commerce and Industry and N. Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.
In order to boost entrepreneurship and encourage startup culture, ‘Startup India’ initiative was launched by the government in 2016. The initiative is intended to build a strong eco-system for nurturing innovation and startups in the country that will drive sustainable economic growth and generate large scale employment opportunities. In line with this, the Time India Awards also honoured the growing breed of startups and small companies in the country.

The event also witnessed the launch of the ‘Make in India’ magazine. In its third edition, the magazine features profiles of some of the youngest and most dynamic entrepreneurs of the country, while throwing light on what really drives them. The magazine explores how these budding innovators and visionaries have managed to make a mark for themselves in a highly competitive business environment.
